#SkinCareSaturday: Winter to Spring Skin Care – Spring Cleaning!

So with the ups and downs in the weather, there is not a doubt in my mind that some of you may be experiencing changes in your skin. Keeping #EarthDay in mind, I thought I’d share my favourite skin care products for detoxing, scrubbing and moisturizing my skin, for some spring cleaning for my pores!

I am a serious suck for skin care and like to really treat and take care of my body’s largest detoxifying and protective organ (I try to think of skin care that way, as opposed to seeing changes in my skin as a hot mess). Anyway, I have a line up of products that are an absolute feel good and do good for me. In addition to this, they’re all feel good and do good for the planet as well. Hopefully they help you too!

Detoxskin care saturday - truself organics detoxifying maskIn terms of a detox treatment, I’ve been really loving the TruSelf Detoxifying Mask. For starters, it’s a vegan, all natural, 100% organic, and cruelty free product. And on another level, with the most minimal and completely comprehensible ingredients list, quite simply put…this mask works. It allows for a naturally clearing, toning and detoxifying experience with its unique mixture of organic clays whilst drawing out toxins and bacteria from your pores. It is also made up of Epsom Salts and White Willow Bark Extract. The salt is insanely toning, detoxifying and will actually also ease any muscle tension on your face. Believe me, it makes a world of a difference. In terms of white willow bark, it is such an underrated ingredient and works beautifully to eradicate existing breakouts and prevent future ones. In addition to this, it helps reduce fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and discolouration.

Scrub

skin care saturday: Ocean salt face and body scrub

For scrubs, my holy grail product is the Ocean Salt Face & Body Scrub from LUSH Cosmetics. The level of minerals this scrub has to offer to your skin is phenomenal. The sea salt works to scrub away dirt, dead skin and any blockages in the pores whilst leaving your skin glowing. The mix of avocado and coconut oil to counteract any dryness the salt may cause was a fantastic idea. It’s a nice balance and results in a avo-coconut cream based salt scrub of sorts. The vodka infused lime will disinfect your life and work as a preventative measure against clogged pores, blackheads and blemishes. It is a lot more intense than the conventional face and body scrub out there, but if you have sensitive skin they have a self-preserving option that isn’t as aggressive in terms of the scrub level. In addition to this, it’s salt…it will melt if you add more water. Chill.

Moisture

Sahajan Ritual Body Oil $55

With the amount of scrubbing and deep cleansing happening with your skin, you’re going to need to amp up your moisture game. Ya feel? That being said, my favourite body oil is the Sahajan Ritual Body Oil. This oil helps to hydrate and restore skin’s natural glow while also soothing away tension with traditional Ayurvedic massage therapy ingredients. Ritual Body Oil is scented to help promote a sense of well-being through a soothing and relaxing experience. A lush combination of floral oils including Rose, Lavender, Violet and Geranium is enhanced by notes of sweet Ylang Ylang and fresh Lemon. All of these work together to brighten, soothe and soften the skin. As a result, it’s also my go to after a dry brushing session.

In terms of face, I’ve been really loving just applying cold pressed, organic avocado oil as a moisture treatment. I actually apply this every night after my moisturizer (I gently pat the oil it). It’s so rich in terms of not only the level of moisture it provides, but also its healing and nourishing properties. Don’t sleep on it, it’s made a world of a difference for my skin.

These three steps are pretty much the sweep, mop and dust combo for my skin. It’s important to detox your skin of all the dirt, grime, impurities and excess oils that have been building up in your pores to allow your skin to breathe and heal. Scrubbing will lift off any dead skin cells and what is drawn out of your pores that you no longer need. In other words, it leaves you glowing with a brand new layer of skin. All this being said, it is absolutely vital to keep your skin hydrated and nourished. In a sense, moisturizing is like giving your skin the most amazing smoothie/protein shake after the intense work out of detoxing and scrubbing. All of these steps will leave you glowing and ready to take on the sunshine.

Let me know if you liked this post as I’m really thinking about delving more into skin care as it is one of my absolute passions in this life (I’m being totally serious, I love it). What are your favourite products to spring clean your skin with?
